Organic search set for internet spending increase
Last year's 35 per cent increase in internet product sales is going to reach an estimated £44.9 billion by 2012, according to a report by Verdict Research. This is likely to underline the power of online marketing and search engine optimisation ( SEO) to many businesses keen to capitalise on this growing trend. However, it could be subtle SEO and search engine marketing in natural search results that wins over the traditional paid search results appearing as advertised links.Recent figures in the 2008 Search Attitudes Report indicate that 91 per cent of internet users prefer to use natural search results when buying a product or service. And it is the younger generations that understand this difference best, with 65 per cent of 16 to 24-year-olds differentiating between natural and advertising search results. Moreover, 18 per cent of users claim that the additional information included in the natural search helps them to define their choice.Verdict Research senior analyst, Malcolm Pinkerton, remarks: "The internet is widely perceived as a cheaper and easier way of finding lower prices and bargains in most sectors."
SEO is a waiting game
Search engine promotion ( SEO) will not bring immediate results, an industry expert has claimed.Latest research by the Online Marketing and Media Show (OMMS) discovered that businesses are scrapping normal internet advertising in favour of organic internet marketing services and SEO.However, many business managers place an unrealistic focus on immediate results from their seo provider.Writing in Marketing Pilgrim, Kurt Krejny notes that quite often these expectationsdemands cannot be achieved in small time scales and require patience. He notes that this is a particular problem with internet reputation management (ORM).Mr Krejny notes: "It takes time and effort, and the client must understand the process and potential outcomes."One of the main ideas to convey to clients is that overall efforts to help a client with ORM will result in enhanced overall online visibility."But businesses are seeing the benefits.Estimates from Trakur suggest that ORM and search engine and internet reputation management spending could double in the US by 2010 to $200 million.
