Tom Petty was not always a rock & roll star. At one time, he was a small child with rock & roll star dreams. Before he was yet a teen, he knew that rock was his destiny. A meeting with the King of rock, Elvis, spawned his pursuit of music. Early guitar lessons from Don Felder, who went on to join the Eagles, gave him some of the skills he needed. But watching the Beatles perform on the Ed Sullivan TV show was the real determining factor. Petty knew that he would be a rock star right then!
