Why Are Gas Prices So High And What You Can Do

By: Mark Myers

Gasoline prices have gotten completely out of hand lately. There is something we can do. Are you sick of ridiculously high gas prices? Do you wonder what the average person can do?? Are you sick of just complaining? Do you think somebody should do something? Do you want to scream every time you pay for fuel? Are you ready to take action today?

Why are gas prices so high? Supply and demand is the obvious answer. Demand is enlarging quicker than supply is enlarging due to global pressure for gas It would appear the age of affordable oil and gasoline are gone forever.

The reasons are up to speculation, but The USA has chosen not to produce and refine more oil. It is senseless for so many Americans to feel this pain every time they go to the gas pumps. Yes, everyone understands that there will be environmental ramifications for oil drilling and new refineries. But the repercussion to the ""3 day frozen tulip must be proportional with the detriment to our economy. It is shameful for America to have the resources to reduce foreign oil dependence and choose to do nothing.

What can you do about high gas prices? Call every politician you can find a phone number for. Demand they explain exactly why gas prices are so high. Ask them why America hasn't built a new refinery in 30 years. Ask them why they don't support drilling in ANWR. Other than drilling for oil in your yard, this is the only thing you can do to affect supply.

So, why are oil prices so high? You can personally effect demand. A generation ago operating an automobile required more than just turning a key and going. You were required to check your oil every week. My point is, it will require work on your part.

What does this have to do with high gas prices? You need to be prepared for the price of drastically increasing fuel economy Eventually the automotive industry will produce alternative powered cars in 15 to 30 years. You can wait, and pay whatever big oil companies tell you to pay for fuel, or you can do something else NOW.

Alternative energy is not new. People have been using power from nature forever. Think fire, oxen, horses, water mills, wind mills, sailboats, oil, whale blubber, wood, and hot springs. As a means of transportation these all leave something to be desired, especially when you already own a automobile.

It is now possible to burn hydrogen gas obtained from water, on on demand, mix it with gasoline, ignite it in your engine, and save money on fuel. You can install a contraption from common materials for under $60 that will accomplish this. It will take you a few hours with simple tools to make, and under an hour to install it. The hook is, you will have to maintain it, which will probably take up to 30 minutes per month. Are you willing to give up your time to save $1 to $1.50 on every gallon of gas you buy?

Why are gas prices so high? They don't have to be.
