Whilst there are many interpretations of a wedding, generally speaking they are still a religious or legal union between two individuals; many changes have been made to the law surrounding a marriage in the last twenty years or so. Multiple Ceremonies Although unusual a double marriage is a where two couples are married at the same time; typically, a person with a brother or sister might plan this type of occasion with that sibling. Marriages in Another Country You will probably already know of a couple that decided on a destination wedding and asked the guests to travel to where they were staying; the definition of a destination wedding is flexible as you don't actually have to leave your country for it to qualify, just so it isn't in your home town. Activity Weddings Weekend weddings are becoming popular and in Ireland they take place over the course of three days. To cater for an expanding market a number of companies arrange special themed occasions that incorporate anything from golf to surfing. Accommodation for these is normally arranged at the place where the service is going to take place and where the other events are also being held. Getting Married on the Internet Although it has not really caught on yet, a few bold and different people have decided to tie the knot online but it may be sometime before this style of wedding really becomes more popular; planning is made easy however, with online guides that list reliable and friendly vendors. Marriages that are broadcast live online are also referred to as online weddings. Civil Ceremonies Elected and appointed officials can carry out a marriage ceremony which is usually called a civil wedding. Religion doesn't normally play a part in these ceremonies because they are purely a legal requirement. Many civil ceremonies take place in local town or city halls or courthouses in judge's chambers.
