Teaching Your Dog To Follow Commands

By: Dan

It is but common to see and notice dog owners spending most of their time teaching tricks to their pet dogs. After all, dogs are considered man's best friend. When dog owners teach their dogs some tricks, chances are, it would take them much of their time. That is why, most dog owners end up relying for those quick and easy to follow dog obedience training tips. Dogs are generally known for being smart and intelligent but still, they need to be trained since there are times they tend to misbehave. As dog owners, therefore, you should understand just how important it is to know about dog obedience training, whether you are already professional in dog handling or is still a beginner.

Of the many types of dog trainings, potty training is perhaps the most important and crucial one. Most dog owners are having quite a hard time potty training their dogs. The key here is to start buying a bell and then tying this bell on your doorknobs. Before you go out with your dog, be sure that you ring the bell and say "Gotta go potty? Gotta go outside?" Doing this often will help your dogs in getting familiar with the approach. They will then understand that when they ring the bell, it simply means they wish to go outside and do potty. However, dog owners should be wary at times since there are some instances that dogs ring the bell not because nature calls but because they want to go out. To avoid this, accompany your dogs especially when they are still starting to learn potty training. Make sure they really do potty and nothing else. Once your dog does this correctly, give him praises afterwards.

'Sit' is another dog training command dog owners can do by themselves as long as they understand how to do it. Before starting teaching your dogs how to follow commands like 'sit', or any types of dog obedience training for that matter, it is always ideal to prepare some treats and break them into tiny pieces. This will basically serve as rewards when dogs properly follow commands. When teaching them how to sit, stand in front of your dog and make sure he is facing you. Firmly say 'sit' as you take your hand and push him gently until he is already in the sitting position. Reward him with your treats the moments he performs the commands properly. Do this often, about five to ten times. Additionally, training your dogs how to lay down is relatively easy. You can start by making them sit and then pulling their front legs away from each other. Do this until your dogs are already in a laying down position. As always, reward your pet canines with treats once he performs well. It also helps to praise them every now and then. When teaching them how to 'shake', let your dog sit down and gently grab their paw as you say 'shake'. Do this often and don't forget to give them treats as well.

Another trick, although more advanced, is ?bye-bye?. To do this, your dog should already know how to shake. Start by having your dog in a sitting position and then say ?shake? but this time, do not shake them. Instead, take their paws and wave them up and down twice and then say ?bye-bye?. Treat them with food and then praise them before repeating the trick. After a few tries, start leaving out the ?shake? and do the action with your own hand by going up and down and then saying ?bye-bye?.
