Sell Art

By: Kathy Austin.

Selling art is in itself an art. Whether you are selling your own art or someone else's art, selling art is an extremely competitive activity that requires patience, dedication and perseverance. Art is subjective and it can be expressed in various forms such as paintings, sculptures, photographs etc. And again, each one of these forms have their own style and each style has its own followers.

For a new artist, getting his paintings the required exposure, let alone selling one, is an uphill task. Well established galleries normally will not entertain them. The next best alternative for them will be to enter an art competition. In these days of cut throat competition, getting you painting entered into an art competition is itself an achievement and can be a stepping stone to success.

The purchase and display of a painting at a person's home sets of a kind of chain reaction. The painting becomes a matter of conversation among relatives, friends and other acquaintances. This may lead to one or more of them purchasing another of your painting. Once the reaction starts it is bound to come to its logical conclusion.

Another good way to sell art is to put them up on the Internet. There are online art galleries that put up art for sale by anybody for a small consideration. There are even free galleries. More established and reputed galleries are more selective on the art that is displayed on their galleries. But they all give aspiring artists a fair chance unlike the big art galleries.

The Internet is a good way to sell art. Thanks to the Internet, connoisseurs of art can buy art from across the globe. National boundaries have been erased and the art of any country or even a specific province can be purchased online. For an aspiring artist this is a bonanza. The exposure that his or her painting gets transcends national boundaries. The more reputed art galleries are, undoubtedly, selective about the art that they display, but almost all of them play fair with the hopeful. Some of them do it even for free.

In these when the money market is swinging like a pendulum gone crazy, art seems to have established itself as a stable form of investment making the selling and buying of art a profitable business. Even the paintings of potentially promising artists are bought with the expectation that they might appreciate in value over time.

If you are not an artist, there is a chance that an acquaintance of yours might be one who paints for the sake of painting and you could persuade him to let you market it for him. His paintings might just have the potential to become well known and you could establish yourself as his agent and get yourself a handsome commission on the sale of his paintings.

So sell art. Yours or someone else's. You might become famous or make someone else famous. If you do, then you could even become rich and buy a few masters for yourself.
