By now, you’ve heard of and know about hybrid cars. They are the center of attention again and there are more of them on the road than last year. There is good reason for this and given the environmental issues of the moment it’s timeto learn a little about these alternative cars. How Hybrid Cars Work The in’s and out’s of a hybrid car are easy to grasp. The term ‘hybrid’ describes the fact that these cars run on a combination of electric and gasoline energy. The vehicle has an electric motor and a gasoline engine. Hybrids were manufactured to the need for a vehicle that gave the following characteristics: - used less gasoline - provided enough energy to power the car comparable to a gasoline car - produced less pollution Hybrids were the answer to the above problems. They can consume less gas because they do not always operate off gasoline engine. Furthermore, due to the fact that the gasoline motor design is slightly different, the hybrid gives off less pollution. The combination of gasoline and electric power makes it a strong competitor to a gasoline car. Past, Present and Future Previously, too much of the car’s functional system was linked to the electric motor. The most reliable model only came to life after a perfect balance was achieved between the electric motor and the gasoline engine . Earlier models lacked the power needed to accelerate, so what was done was a complete revamp. Today’s models use the gasoline engine at time when more power is needed, such as accelerating. The electric motor is is perfect for normal driving conditions and when more power is not needed. The automotive industry manufacturing a whole bunch of their top cars into hybrid cars and have created some new lines that are 100% hybrid. The Toyota Prius is one of the most recognized options of hybrid cars on the market. Besides cars, the manufacturer makes vans and even SUV’s in hybrid models. With depleting oil sources, converting to an alternative such as a hybrid mode of transport is an option we will all face. There will just be no other option. Gas prices continue to rise and as demand increases, production naturally decreases. This is contributing to the high prices. Furthermore, our present modes of transport are letting out way too much pollution. Our planet is showing too many signs of damage done by such pollution. It is in our hands to do what it takes to aid in reducing the damage being done to our planet. Driving a hybrid is a fantastic option.
