However, parents should remember that it is their responsibility to keep the kids safe. The rides are designed for optimal safety, but there are some rules partygoers should adhere to in order to avoid injury. There are many different types of rides available for use at parties, and each one has their own height and weight requirement. Generally, riders should be older than three years old and around 42 inches tall. Some rides are designed for smaller children, and most rental services can advise renters on alternative activities for toddlers and infants. Most rides are not appropriate for those who suffer from physical or mental disabilities. Since the rides are designed for children, there is also usually a weight and height limit. This information will be provided on delivery of the ride. A ride attendant or supervisor should be on hand to help the riders enter and exit, monitor turns, and enforce the rules. The party host or the attendant should announce all of the rules to the guests beforehand. If the children are aware of the rules, they are more likely to encourage others to adhere to them. Since it is likely that the children will be making contact with others, most rides require them to remove their shoes and any other sharp objects, like eyeglasses. This will prevent injuries and the accidental destruction of property. The ride attendant should check to ensure shoes have been removed before helping the kids onto the ride. Other objects that can soil the play equipment, such as gum, food, drinks, and silly string, should also be left outside. When children are entering to play, the attendant should try to pair those who are similar in size and weight so that the bigger children to do hurt the smaller ones. The instruction included with the rental will tell the attendant how many can participate at a time. In order to further avoid injury and damages, all roughhousing and wrestling is prohibited. Children who cannot follow these rules should be removed from the activity. If the riders are moving too fast, they may have a hard time avoiding running into others, so try to keep running to a minimum. Some rides are designed specifically for jumping, but the riders should never be allowed to jump from the ride. Always help the children slide or climb down safely. Stepping or jumping down can cause injury. It may be a disappointment to your party guests, but the ride should not be used during any rain or high winds. Water can cause slipping hazards and should only be used for activities like slip-and-slides. Winds are known to blow over inflatable play pens and other temporary structures, so even if the equipment is staked into the ground as required, the homeowner should stop use of the ride when winds are higher than 15 miles per hour. If the attendant and the party guest follow the rules, a kiddie ride can be an exciting addition to any celebration. The important thing for parents to remember is to watch the children as best they can. Let the children have fun, but don’t forget to enjoy some of the festivities, too!
