Information On Buffet Restaurants

By: Patricia Farnham

You may want to consider a buffet style of restaurant for your new business. This offers your customers convenience and access to plenty of different foods. Those with hefty appetites will certainly find your buffet restaurant to be attractive to them as long as you always offer fresh and delicious foods. The fact that you can walk into a buffet restaurant and immediately get a plate of food is the main attraction.

With a buffet, customers are able to serve the amount of food that they want. They can arrange their plates any way they wish. If you look at what is being carried away you will see all sorts of combinations. Make sure you offer plenty of foods that appeal to children too including chicken and mashed potatoes. Many people take advantage of a buffet and try a small amount of new foods. This way they can decide if they like them or not for future reference.

Not everyone likes the idea of a buffet though so you may alienate some customers if this is your layout for the business. They want to go out to eat so they can enjoy being waited on. They don't want to have to get up and serve what they want. It can be hard with small children too because you have to continually get up and serve what they need.

One of the most difficult issues for restaurant owners is how much to offer at a time when it comes to the buffet. Customers are going to expect a good selection of food that is fresh. They aren't going to want to find slim pickings or food that has been sitting out all day. You will need to gauge the food supply and get a good feel of the peak times of the day and the week for your restaurant.

Sanitation is a very important element of any buffet restaurant. You will need to train your staff to remove plates from tables as customers finish with them. Wiping down spills on the buffet line is important too so it will always look nice. Make sure you have plenty of plates on hand too as customers will need to get a new one each time they go to the line. Pay attention to any issues that need to be identified in the buffet area so you can immediately resolve them.

If a full time buffet restaurant isn't something you are interested in, you do have some other options. You can offer a smaller scale buffet and a full menu so that your customers can decide which one is right for them. You can also offer a buffet only during the lunch hour to help people get back to work on time. Weekend buffets also draw a nice crowd so you do have some great options. Make sure you have the buffet information posted so your customers will know what you offer.

Others only offer a buffet for lunch time due to the large crowd they get of people with only an hour to get there, eat, and get back to the office. A Sunday buffet for the crowd that generally goes out to eat after Church services is a good option as well. If you are interested in offering a buffet set up you will need to look at all of the benefits of it as well as the work involved.

Pricing for your buffet certainly is an issue to think about. You don't want it to be too expensive or people aren't going to eat it. However, if you charge too low of a price you will end up losing money. Things generally even out though as you will have small eaters and very big eaters. You can offer a different price for lunch and for dinner. It is a nice gesture to offer lower prices for seniors and for children as well.
