How To Kill Silverfish – Tips And Advice By following effective yet simple methods, you can easily overcome the problem of silverfish in your home. Silverfish are very small insects like cockroaches, which can be found in dark, moist, warm areas of the house. Silverfish feed on starchy items like the cereals, wallpaper glue and book-bindings and even clothes made of silk or synthetic fibre. They don’t harm humans or pets at home, but are considered to be quite a nuisance. How to kill silverfish: Basically there are two ways to kill the silverfish in your home. 1. Through chemical control – The best way to kill silverfish is by using a good quality residual insecticide like Suspend, Cynoff or Demon. Apply them at least for 3 weeks. Products that contain Cypermethrin like Demon or Cynoff are good for silverfish control. By using these products as directed, it also kills other pests present at home. Moreover they do not contain a bad odour or smell. If your house has a large population of silverfish, then instead of using chemical controls you must use baits. Niban FG is one of the best baits for silverfish and can also kill ants and roaches. In the summer these silverfish can be found outside the home. So at this time you must use perimeter spray. You can easily get all these sprays to kill silverfish in the market. 2. Through non-chemical control - another way to kill silverfish is using non-chemical control. Start by using silverfish traps. By making use of air conditioning or dehumidifiers, you can reduce the silverfish population. Remove all the old clothes or books from the basements. If there are dirty clothes at home, then clean or remove it away to prevent them from silverfish. Some Prevention And Advice: Always remember that your house should have good and clean sanitation. This will not only help in reducing silverfish population but also kill other harmful insects like roaches and big ants etc. These insects often live in insulation equipment, books, papers and gaps in the wall. So make sure you clean these places regularly and fill the gap holes in walls. Also take away old newspapers, waste papers, magazines, books and old fabric food products. Reduce your house relative moisture with the dehumidifiers or fans. Do repair all the leaking plumbs and reduce humidity around the laundry areas. If you light the dark areas, then these Silverfish will move to some other sites where it will be easy to kill or control them. Silverfish control chemicals should be applied carefully and on regular intervals to all the places like crevices, cracks, floor mouldings, water pipes areas, behind, as well as inside, seldom moved furnishings and in the attics. Remember that whatever Silverfish control technique you use will take approximately 10 to 14 days, so have some patience. You can’t see immediate effect of these treatments as they do their task slowly. So whenever you face Silverfish problems at home then immediately apply any of these treatments to control it or it will make your home a mess.
