For whatever reason, you've never posted an ad on a classified ads site. Not once, and you've never checked out any sites either. Why not? Don't you want potential buyers eager to mop up what you've got to offer? Well, you are not the only one, believe me. In fact, many businesses, large, medium and small have never considered classified ads as part of their marketing strategy either. No, never. Yet they should. Classified ads sites are a potential opportunity not to be missed. There are some really big players in the field, classified sites which generate enormous amounts of traffic on a daily basis. For example, Gumtree, which started out in March 2000 as a local London classified ads and community site, now boasts in the region of a million visitors every month. Now that IS serious traffic. Wouldn't your business benefit from some of that? It surely would. Loot is another big, big player in the classified ads market, combining a massive online presence with some major print publications, including the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard, Metro and other titles, all part and parcel of the Associated Newspapers organization. Loot has been in the buying and selling business for over 20 years with a print and online reach of some 2 million every month. Around half a million people visit loot.com alone. But it doesn't stop there. For there are other major online classified ads sites which you would be mad to ignore. For example, there's friday-ad.co.uk, classifiedads.com and vivastreet.co.uk, which alone displays around a half million ads at any one time. Incredible numbers and incredible traffic which anyone can make use of. But it doesn't stop there. For there are many other major sites which could have been listed and which provide significant traffic, too. But if there are major players then there are lesser players. Don't ignore these although just how much traffic each might provide is much harder to work out. As with just about all classified ads sites, whether a minor or major player, the sign-up/ad placement process is usually quick, easy and free. So there's no excuse for signing up with just one site. Sign up with two, three, four, 10, 20 - it shouldn't take long to do. The combined traffic alone should make the whole effort worthwhile. And talking of "minor" players, why not try my own classified ads site - freebieads.co.uk? It's been up and running for about a year now. Hopefully, at some point in the future, it will be able to hold its own next to the big boys. Time alone will tell. At the moment, freebieads.co.uk attracts around 5,000 visitors a month and exhibits in the region of 500 ads at any one time. Not in the Gumtree, Loot or Vivastreet league. However, even they started off life as small-time players! A final thought or two, to lighten the mood. Classified ad sites reflect the world we live in - which at times borders on the weird, judging by some of the ads posted! Loot provides a real insight here into the bizarre. For items sold have included a Mr Whippy ice cream van, Australian shark cartilage, manure, a pencil sharpener collection, an organic wormery and a life size dalek. Odd or what. Even the British royals have occasionally used Loot, it seems. Apparently, the Duchess of Kent sold her second-hand fridge through Loot in 2004. There you have it, the ultimate proof. If classified ads are good enough for the British aristocracy, then surely they are good enough for the likes of you and me, too? You bet they are. So what are you waiting for? Get posting those ads!
