Executive Communication Coaches: Help With Business Communication

There are several different types of coaches that I have heard of from life coach, to birth coach. When I first heard the term 'Executive Communication Coach', though, I was a little shocked by it, wondering what type of coach this might be. Don't we all have the ability to listen, to talk? So what purpose would a coach for communication serve? The answer is that executive communication coaches truly can and will be a plus to any organization in corporate America.

Sometimes, what we want to say and what we actually do say is quite different. All the different styles of communication in the workplace can lead to frustration. Some employees may seem wishy-washy because they don't want to seem bossy with their ideas, while others may seem domineering because they feel the only way to get their ideas heard is to be forceful. Executive communication coaches help us to strike a balance between expressing ourselves boldly without destroying the collaborative workplace atmosphere. An executive coach helps employees to be assertive while still remaining open-minded and keeping effective lines of communication open.

Wondering about the benefit of executive job coaching? A good coach can eliminate the barriers to good and open communication. These barriers in the form of suppressed negativity cost a business much n the way of both creativity as well as communication. This has an undesirable impact on relationships within the organization, and this can lead to an impact revenue and even other issues.

Speaking assertively should be fairly easy to do, but for some reason, many people are reluctant. One sports coach lists eight reasons why people seem to be unable to speak up for themselves: misplaced respect for authority, fear of negative consequences, self-doubt, fear of offending anyone, a desire to avoid certain issues, it's their habit not to do so, they don't know how to speak up, and when no one else is saying anything, they don't want to be the first to speak up.

Everyone can identify with all or at least some of these in our interactions with others. All are barriers to good communication. The way a communication coach is helpful is that they work to purge those problems and difficulties from the workplace by identifying problem areas and working with employees to improve the situation. Coaches utilize a step-by-step technique called FACE, which stands for Facts, Appreciation, Consequence and Cost, and Expectation.

We should examine the parts of this equation. Communication begins with objective information (facts), not speculation, and this should be stated, Next, acknowledge that the opinions of others matter and are welcomed (appreciation), and consider next how the way you react or what you do will impact the others involved in the situation (cost). Finally, make it plain what specific result you want to happen (expectation). This "f-a-c-e" model helps you remain courteous while leaving no doubt about what you hope to accomplish.

This is only a small example of what good executive communication coaches will do for your office. The expertise that they demonstrate will be a great aid in facilitating more effective communication between colleagues at the office, thus increasing productivity overall.

Why exactly would anyone need an executive communication coach? Because executive coaches can help you express your thoughts without repelling your listeners by being too forceful. Executive job coaching can help remove obstacles that interfere with company communication. It can be difficult to speak up in a meeting or some other social situation, and coaching can help executives learn when and how to speak their minds. The FACE formula (Facts, Appreciation, Consequence/Cost, and Expectation) is an example of the advice that a good communication coach can bring. Coaches can make executives more productive.
