There are many reasons why upgrading a computer to include a DVD burner and the correct software is a good idea. For those who take a lot of home movies, photographs and more, the idea is almost a necessary one to handle the storage issues. Home movies can take up a ton of hard drive space and they might be beyond a regular CD's capacity, but a DVD can hold them and generally a lot more. The advantages to owning your own DVD burning or copying software and hardware include: * An ability to remove hard-drive cluttering files from your computer. DVDs can hold a tremendous amount of information. A standard CD can hold about 700 megabytes of information. A DVD will hold about 4.7 gigs. The comparison isn't even worth making! * Burning your own movies or TV shows. Depending on what kind of hardware and software you have, you can create copies of your favorite movies or shows. This is a great idea for those who don't want to risk ruining a purchased disk, but do keep copyright laws in mind. You can run into trouble so don't ever burn copies for resale, that's piracy and that's against the law. * Editing of home movies. A DVD is a more suitable choice for storing snips and clips of movies you'd like to splice together or even to provide back ups of these clips for future use. By carefully sorting clips into individual DVD files, the process can be made easier and your hard drive won't be cluttered with the information. * Easier sharing of personal movies and files. Since DVDs can hold so much more, entire home movies can be burned for grandparents and so on. You don't have to just send them snippets or clips any more and they can watch them directly on their television. * Easier back up of computer files. Things can and do happen to computer hard drives. Considering this, it's always a good idea to back up any data, photographs and movies you can't live without. Single CDs cannot handle the massive hard drives sold today, but oftentimes a DVD can or at least come close to it. This makes the process of backing up a whole lot more efficient. When looking for DVD burning software make sure to purchase programs you can handle and your computer can. Be certain they are compatible with the DVD burner you've purchased as well. Many times manufacturers of DVD burners will include software with the purchase, but there are other more advanced programs available for moviemakers, professional or otherwise. A DVD burner can be a real advantage over a regular CD creator. Since DVDs can hold so much more information, storing movies, files and photographs on a single disk will be easier. It will also be easier to share those files with other. A simple CD burner may work for some, but for those with a lot of files, a passion for movies and photos and even music, the only way to go is a DVD burner.
