Children should be encouraged to read books. Once this step is achieved, it is a good idea to scout around for a book club where children can meet at a particular time and read books together. If there is no book club nearby, then you could even start your own book club in your house or backyard. All you need are some books and some lemonade or milk and cookies. You can invite your neighborhood children to come along with some of their books, and children can then exchange their books at the book club. That way, children can have access to a wider variety of books without spending heavily. If you were to join an existing book club, they would have a collection of books that your child could read. Children often mimic others. Therefore, a book club is also good because a child, who might not read books at home, might start reading if he or she sees other children reading and enjoying the books. You too, can keep busy at the book club by meeting your friends and maybe enjoying a good book yourself. A book club will enable your child to observe other children reading and writing and he or she could learn a lot from it. Your book club can organize book reading sessions with various children's books from different authors or you can even organize a painting competition to keep the children interested and motivated. Children coming to book clubs will not only learn to read, but in future will also yearn to read. This is also a good way to spend quality time with your kids. It is also a good way of cooling down hyperactive kids, because children tend to relax when they are reading something interesting. Book clubs can also arrange various projects in science from their books. This will encourage children to work together as a team while they are discovering the wonders of science. If you are meeting in someone's home, then you can suggest that each parent bring a different snack This way, the snacks can be shared among all the children.. Each parent can also volunteer to read a particular story during the meeting. Inform all the parents about the place and time of the next meeting well in advance. Nowadays, with the advent of the Internet, book clubs have taken on a new hi-tech meaning. Books are now available on the Internet through book clubs, where you subscribe to a particular series of books, which you have checked out at the site. These books are then posted to you periodically. There are also online e-books available, which your child can read. However, for children to physically meet, the traditional way of getting together in book clubs is still the best. So, enroll your child in a book club or start one on your own and see your child glow and grow into an informed adult.
