Boxer Puppy Training Tips For Successful Training

If you've decided to get a puppy, be prepared to spend some time training the puppy properly. Puppies are just like children and will need love, discipline and training in order to learn the ropes. They come to you cute and cuddly, but remember they grow up. What is cute when a puppy does it is less cute when it is done by a full-grown dog.

Since you have your heart set on a boxer, let's take a few minutes to learn about boxer puppy training. One of the main things that you will want to teach your puppy is to listen to you. This is where a lot of trouble starts. When a dog does what he pleases no matter what you say, he needs help and so do you.

In order to make the relationship between you and your puppy the best it can be, you are going to have to start early. A puppy will listen if he is rewarded and as time gradually passes, he will keep listening even if it is because he thinks he will be receiving a treat.

It is fine to start out with treats, but as your puppy learns more, you won't want to give him a treat each time. When you take your puppy outside and walk around the neighborhood, give him a chance to explore and learn. Take him to meet the neighbors, their children and others so that the puppy gets used to being around people.

One method to use in boxer puppy training is to make the rules so that he will have to follow them. Then enforce the rules. Straying due to distractions and excitement is normal exactly like it is with children.

A good idea is to have an area of your home that belongs to the puppy. It will be where he is sent for time outs when he misbehaves. For this reason, it needs to be somewhere quiet and private. It will also be where you keep his toys, his bed, preferably, and a place where he can use as his retreat. Keeping his toys in something that you can put away when he is in time out is important.

People run into problems when training a puppy because they don't establish what can be chewed and what is off limits. Puppies love to chew. This is no secret. Having an area that is totally for the puppy will allow him to go there and chew on anything that is his.

If the puppy inadvertently starts chewing on your favorite shoes or sweater, stop him immediately and scold him for the behavior. Replace the inappropriate object with something that he is allowed to chew on like his toys or a bone. Follow this up with praise to let your puppy know that you were displeased when he was chewing on your shoes or sweater, but that his chewing on his own stuff is perfectly fine. Establishing boundaries for your puppy will build a special bond and give you a relationship that will last a lifetime.
